Implant-supported denture.

At Oaks Oral Surgery & Periodontics, an implant-supported over-denture combines the stability of dental implants with the affordability of a removable denture. Two to four implants hold the denture firmly in place — no more slipping, no more denture adhesive, and a dramatic improvement in chewing function and confidence.

What is implant-supported denture?

An implant-supported denture (over-denture) is a removable denture that attaches to two or more dental implants placed in the jaw. The implants prevent the denture from moving during eating and speaking, while the prosthesis itself can still be removed for cleaning. It is often a cost-effective alternative to a fixed full-arch reconstruction.

Why patients choose an over-denture

A conventional denture rests on the gums and tends to shift, especially in the lower jaw. An implant-supported over-denture is held firmly in place by snaps or a bar attached to two to four implants. Chewing efficiency, speech, and confidence all improve dramatically. The denture can still be removed for cleaning.

How treatment works

After a planning consultation and 3D imaging, two to four implants are placed in the jaw. After several months of healing for the implants to integrate, attachments are added to a new or existing denture. Patients typically wear an interim denture during the healing period.

Fixed vs. removable

An over-denture is removable; a full-arch fixed prosthesis (All-on-X) is screwed in and stays in your mouth permanently. Over-dentures are typically less expensive and use fewer implants, while a fixed restoration provides the closest experience to natural teeth. We discuss the tradeoffs honestly so you can choose the right option.
