Our commitment

Oaks Oral Surgery & Periodontics is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. This website aims to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

Our current status is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard, and we are actively working to remediate the remaining items.

What we’ve done

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer) and ARIA labels for screen-reader navigation.
  • A “skip to main content” link at the top of every page, revealed on keyboard focus.
  • Visible focus indicators on every interactive element using a 2-pixel ring in our moss accent color.
  • Color contrast meeting or exceeding WCAG AA on body text, navigation, and most interactive elements (4.5:1 for normal text; 3:1 for large text).
  • All form fields are programmatically associated with their labels. Errors are displayed inline within the labeled form group so screen readers announce them with the field.
  • Reduced-motion fallback: animations and transitions are disabled for users whose system preference is set to reduce motion.
  • Keyboard accessibility: every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard alone. The mobile navigation drawer can be closed with the Escape key.
  • The decorative hero video is muted, marked aria-hidden, and does not auto-play audio.
  • Tap targets on touchscreens are at least 44×44 CSS pixels for primary interactive elements.

Known limitations

The following items are identified as not yet fully conforming to WCAG 2.1 AA:

  • Two prominent copper-coloured call-to-action buttons (the hero “Book Your Appointment” and the final “Book Online”) use a warm copper background with dark text at an 11-pixel size. This combination measures 4.19:1, just below the 4.5:1 threshold for normal text. The buttons still meet the 3:1 threshold for large text. We are evaluating a design remediation that preserves the brand accent.
  • Downloadable PDF post-operative instructions are being remediated to ensure full tag structure and reading order for screen readers. In the meantime, all post-op content is also available on request by phone.

Assessment approach

We assess this site through a combination of self-evaluation, automated testing with the axe-core toolset, and manual keyboard and screen-reader testing on current versions of macOS VoiceOver, NVDA, and iOS VoiceOver. The most recent audit covered the homepage, booking page, contact page, and referral page on May 11, 2026. We re-audit any page that receives meaningful design or content changes.

Reporting a barrier

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our website. If you encounter any barrier, need information in an alternate format, or would like to provide feedback on our accessibility, please contact us. We aim to respond within two business days.
